Active Community Leader
Dedicated Wife and Mother Rebecca Bell-Metereau Rebecca has always served her community, both locally and globally. She taught English and American studies in the Peace Corps and served as a French interpreter for U.S. Air Force relief flights in Chad, one of the ten poorest countries in the world. She was a Fulbright scholar and teacher in Senegal. After settling in San Marcos she served as Planning and Zoning Commissioner, member of Solid Waste and Blue Ribbon Bond Commissions, representative for her Neighborhood Council, and as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Homeowners Association. Dedicated to Education Rebecca has taught at Texas State University and served as Visiting Professor at the University of Nebraska and the University of St. Louis in Senegal. She was Special Assistant to the President at Texas State University, working on first-year student retention and the transition from high school. In addition to teaching, Rebecca has received awards and served Texas State University over her 28-year career: Dedicated to Learning She has authored 3 books, 9 book chapters, 82 articles, reference entries, and reviews, presented at 84 conferences, directed 5 short films, received 22 local, state and national grants, and served on 12 editorial boards and consultancies.
received the Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Alumni Association Teaching Excellence Award, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service from Texas State University, where she is Professor of English and Film and directs the Media Studies Minor. She and her husband, Dr. Jean-Pierre Metereau, professor at Texas Lutheran University, have two daughters who graduated from San Marcos High School. As an experienced educator, community leader, parent, and volunteer, Rebecca has the know-how and dedication to create positive educational change for Texas.
